Which absorbency do I need?

For bladder leaks, choose Moderate or Heavy. A bladder leak is different from a period: it arrives quickly, often more than you'd expect, and it's thinner, so it needs to be absorbed quickly. Moderate (holds around 15ml, about three pads' worth) suits most everyday leaks. Heavy (holds around 20ml, about four pads' worth) gives you more in reserve for workouts, long days out or postpartum recovery. Both feel like ordinary underwear; the extra absorbency is inside the gusset, not something you'll notice wearing them.

How it works

Every pair has a thin, layered gusset: a soft top layer that pulls moisture away from you, an absorbent core that holds it, and a leakproof barrier that stops anything reaching your clothes. There's no pad to position and nothing to change during the day.

Questions we are often asked

Will anyone be able to tell?

No. The absorbent layer sits inside the gusset and the rest of the pair is standard bamboo underwear. It looks the same under shorts, pants or a dress.

Will I feel wet when I leak?

More than likely, yes. When a leak happens you may notice some dampness, the same as you would with any underwear. The difference is what happens next: the absorbent layer draws the liquid in and holds it, your clothes stay dry, and the top layer dries much faster than ordinary underwear does, so the feeling passes quickly. What you won't have is a wet patch, a smell or the need to change.

How many pairs do I need?

Most women start with three: one on, one in the wash, one ready. 

How do I wash them?

Rinse in cold water after wearing, then machine-wash on a delicate cycle with your usual laundry. Skip fabric softener (it coats the absorbent layer) and hang to dry. 

Is this the same as your period underwear?

Yes. Whether it's a period or a bladder leak, what you need is the same thing: an absorbent layer built into the underwear that takes in the liquid and locks it away from your skin and your clothes. That's exactly what every pair of Sahara is. The same construction and the same fabrics work for both; the only difference is which absorbency you choose. Bladder leaks arrive faster and are thinner than period blood, which is why we recommend Moderate or Heavy.
