About Sahara

I don't know about you, but I get frustrated when an 'About Us' page has nothing but contact details and vague talk of 'the team.' Here at Sahara, a local UAE-based company, we do things differently – and that includes sharing the real journey of Sahara.

It all started in 2016... Natalie, our founder, reluctantly moved from Australia to Dubai. Leaving a job she loved, family around the corner, and her 'forever home' to follow her husband as a 'trailing spouse' with two young daughters. But just a few months later she started to find her feet (and make a friend or two!) and soon decided she never wanted to leave! 

It was here in Dubai that Natalie discovered period underwear. Like so many of us, she thought pads and tampons were the only options when it came to periods (cups weren't really her thing!). Discovering these comfy, eco-friendly alternatives was a total game-changer. Suddenly, periods weren't about discomfort or missing out on a swim; they were easier, more comfortable, and a huge step towards a greener planet. Goodbye, awkward pads; hello, freedom and sustainability!

Natalie's passion led her to start a business, bringing this amazing product to women in the UAE. Over the next three and a half years, she helped thousands of girls and women ditch traditional products and make the switch to period underwear and swimwear.

Then, life threw a curveball. Unexpected events led Natalie to step away from the brand she'd poured her heart into. She took a well-deserved break, filled with family time, an incredible hike to Nanga Parbat Base Camp in Pakistan, and completed a 9,000-piece puzzle.

But the calls and messages kept coming – women still wanted quality period underwear and swimwear. After months of requests, Natalie knew it was time to create something truly her own: Sahara. She wanted to ensure girls and women always had access to affordable, effective period products.

For the next year, Natalie poured her soul into designing the Sahara range. Drawing on her experience and feedback over the. years, she focused on designing a collection that prioritises both comfort and durability. There were countless samples, fittings, and tests, and many trips to meet manufacturers. Finally, in October 2023, the collection was ready!

You won't find us making outlandish claims about magic underwear that lasts forever or guarantee zero leaks no matter what. Lke any period product, if you wear it beyond its capacity or don't wash it properly, it might not perform its best. And just like your favourite undies, they won't last a lifetime – we recommend replacing your Sahara every couple of years.

But here's the truth: Sahara period underwear is an excellent choice for period protection. It's wonderfully comfortable, super easy to use (just like your regular underwear), incredibly convenient, and affordable. Most importantly, it truly works.
